Yes. While the rough opening may indeed be 60", the wallboard and tile or plastic wall sets that are installed in the actual opening are slightly smaller. Typically, a 59" door (example 5405-59S) is used for a 60" bath.

Frameless doors do not have aluminum pieces around the panels of the doors. This provides an open "feel" to the bathroom and an aesthetic that blends easily.

To determine this, measure the width and height of your door opening. Click here for help on measuring your door opening or refer to the Bath/Shower Door Help Guide located in retail aisles.

We offer Silver, Matte Silver, Nickel, Deep Bronze, Polished Brass and White. Finishes are door model-specific. Not all finish options are available on every STERLING door. If you purchase an open box and find it damaged or you find there are missing parts, please call Sterling Customer Care Center at 1-800-STERLING (1-800-783-7546) to arrange for the replacement parts to be mailed to you. Retailers generally use an E-Z Find™ system that utilizes an alphanumeric code on both display door and on stocked product (e.g., E-85). Depending on the store, the stock may be kept near the displayed product or in a nearby stockroom.

A shower door fits over a receptor, shower module or custom tile shower, whereas a bathtub shower door fits over a bathtub or whirlpool. A shower door is generally taller and typically not as wide as a bath door. Shower doors rest on the threshold of the receptor, which brings them much closer to the floor than bath doors, which are secured to the bathtub ledge.

Generally, consumers purchase the showering/bath product first, then select the STERLING door to match.

In-stock door models vary by store. The store associate can assist you with selecting a bath or shower door to fit your bathing product.

All the parts needed are included with your STERLING door. However, you will need to make sure you have all the necessary tools. For a tool list, click on the technical information of the door you've chosen and review the first few pages of the installation guide.

Provided each wall isn't more than 3/8" out of plumb, you will be able to successfully install a STERLING® bath or shower door.

Generally, no additional support is needed unless the rough-in sheet indicates otherwise. STERLING shower doors come with wall anchors which will hold the door to the wall or shower surround. If you are remodeling or building a new home, adding a wood beam, such as a 2" x 4", to fasten the door to, may provide enough support for any of the doors in our comprehensive offering.

All of our silk-screened doors must be installed on the outside of the enclosure.

For a by-pass door, the STERLING Finesse™ Quick Install™ door is the fastest and easiest door to install because it features an adjustable track and a compression-fit mechanism that accommodates a wide range of openings. There is no cutting, drilling or measuring required. For a pivot door, the STERLING 6300 is the easiest because very few parts are required and only one cut is needed.

Your homeowner's guide includes expanded parts diagrams that provide a detailed diagram of your door. If you no longer have a guide, you can obtain one online or by calling Sterling Customer Care Center at 1-800-STERLING (1-800-783-7546) in the U.S. or 001-877-680-1310 in Mexico. Please note: You'll need to determine what door you have first – there is a label with the part number on most doors. On by-pass doors, the label is inside the header. On pivot doors, the location varies and Customer Care Center can help you locate it.

Sterling also offers a 39" transfer shower (Series 6205) that complies with ICC ANSI A117.1 Standards section 1004.11.3.1.3.3 and the Fair Housing Act Accessibility when installed per the guidelines. This applies to type A and B residential and multi-family housing. The 39" transfer shower earned a Design and Engineering Award from Popular Mechanics magazine.

All three showers are not only beneficial for the physically challenged, but for mature homeowners as well. All are barrier-free to allow for easy entry and exit. These Sterling showers are spacious and include an easy-to-clean bottom surface. There is a low, accessible, molded-in shelf along the back wall which provides a generous amount of easily reached storage space to accommodate toiletries.

Made of solid Vikrell® material, all three showers are functional, durable, affordable, and easy-to-install. There are no costly floor modifications required for installation.

When looking at a whirlpool or bath, you must establish the reference point, which is the entry side or threshold. From the entry side of the whirlpool or bath, the drain location determines whether the unit is right-hand or left-hand. An right-hand bath has its drain on the right side and a left-hand bath has its drain on the left side.

The apron or skirt, covers the front of a bath or whirlpool. A removable apron allows limited access to the pump/motor and to plumbing system components on the apron side of the unit.

The standard size for bathtubs is 60" and are installed in the rough stage of construction (against the studs). After rough installation a 1/2" of wall board and a 1/2" of tile is typically added on top of the studs at each end of the bath making a finished installation roughly 58".

The lower the gauge, the thicker the steel. Thick steel is less likely to dent and is more sound resistant.

SilentShield sound-deadening pads are applied to all STERLING sinks creating a quieter sink (from clanging disposal or silverware) versus many competitors. The sound-deadening technology was borrowed from the auto industry.

Toilets come in round-front and elongated shapes, with many different shapes and styles to choose from. Elongated toilets are more comfortable for adults, while round-front styles are popular where space is at a premium. Both round-front and elongated shapes are available in a variety of styles, ranging from contemporary to traditional.

Standard toilet height is around 14 1/2" from the floor to the bowl rim, without a toilet seat. However, toilet bowl height has increased in recent years for the benefit of taller people, those with physical handicaps and/or the elderly. The newest and most popular floor-to-bowl rim height is typically around 16 1/8". Toilets that comply with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) requirements must have a 17" to 19" floor-to-bowl rim height, including the seat.

You should also consider the toilet rough-in from the wall, which is commonly 12". Other rough-ins in older homes can be 10" or 14". This is important as many toilet models are available in 12" rough-in, but if you have a unique rough-in (10" or 14"), your selection may be limited. Of course, Sterling offers toilets in many styles, rough-ins and heights for most any installation.

Sterling manufactures toilets with 10", 12" and 14" rough-in sizes.

In order to determine your rough-in dimension, please measure from the center of your toilet bolt holes to your finished wall. Most of our toilets are manufactured to accommodate a 12" rough-in model toilet. If, however, you find yourself in a situation where you do not have enough space to install your tank onto your bowl because the wall is in the way, the solution is our 10" rough-in toilet. Alternately, if you feel as if your toilet is sitting in the middle of your bathroom because you have a gaping space between the back of your tank and the wall, a 14" rough-in toilet may be a better choice.

The National Energy Policy Act of 1992 mandates that all toilets sold in the United States effective January 1, 1994 shall have a 1.6 gpf maximum. STERLING toilets meet these as well as other local and national water conservation and plumbing code requirements. In fact, we also apply stringent internal testing and quality control standards for all our toilets to ensure their high performance lasts over time. STERLING toilets with Dual Force® Technology further improve water conservation efforts by offering the option of a .8-gallon flush or a 1.6-gallon flush.

The hydrodynamic design of STERLING low-consumption toilets maximizes the force of gravity to provide one-flush performance, every time. That means that one flush is all it takes to effectively cleanse the bowl or Sterling will repair or replace the toilet.

Unlike most other low consumption toilets, a STERLING toilet's performance is not adversely affected by low incoming water pressure. With the STERLING 1.6 gallon toilet, a powerful surge of water is directed into the trapway to begin the siphoning action. The STERLING float and flush valve system eliminates the problems associated with other designs so a clean, quiet, trouble-free flush is ensured every time. Our toilets with Dual Force® Technology offer the option of a .8-gallon flush or a 1.6-gallon flush to minimize consumption, while maintaining high flush performance. The three-bolt mounting system attaches the tank to the bowl for a secure, level installation.

Dual Force Technology is a trademarked flushing system developed by Sterling that offers a choice between two water levels for every flush. Operated by a user-friendly two-button actuator integrated into the tank lid, the Rockton™ toilet with Dual Force Technology will use either 1.6 gallons (federal mandate and industry standard) or .8 gallons depending on which button is pressed. The latter flush option, if used routinely to remove light or liquid waste, can save a household of four up to 6,000 gallons of water per year, per toilet, over traditional 1.6-gallon models. Equally impressive, the 1.6-gallon setting will consistently remove bulk waste with just one flush, eliminating the need for double flushing. In addition, 100% of the water passes through the rim to keep the bowl clean with its siphonic washdown system.

Not commonly found on most toilets, this design element raises the back edge of the toilet bowl and helps prevent light waste from collecting under the tank where it connects to the bowl. The result is an overall cleaner toilet.

To find out, measure the distance between the center of the bolt holes (which connects the seat to the bowl) to the front rim of the toilet. If it measures approximately 16 1⁄2", your toilet is a round-front. If it measures approximately 18 1⁄2", it is an elongated model. This information is also important when replacing the toilet seat.

SilentShield sound-deadening pads are applied to all STERLING sinks creating a quieter sink (from clanging disposal or silverware) versus many competitors. The sound-deadening technology was borrowed from the auto industry.
